KAPP NILES ZP 16 Gear Grinding Capability at KNGEAR

KNGEAR uses a KAPP NILES ZP 16 gear profile grinding machine to support precision finishing of large hardened gears for industrial gearbox and custom gear projects.

According to KAPP NILES specifications for the ZP series, the ZP 16 has a maximum tip diameter of 1,600 mm and a maximum module of 40 mm. Actual machining suitability still depends on gear geometry, face width, helix angle, workholding and the machine configuration used for the specific part.

Why Gear Grinding Matters

After carburizing or other hardening processes, gear teeth can require finish grinding to achieve the specified profile, lead, surface condition and contact behaviour. Gear grinding is particularly important for heavily loaded industrial gearboxes where tooth accuracy and load distribution influence vibration, noise and service life.

What the ZP 16 Adds to KNGEAR Manufacturing

  • Profile grinding capability for large industrial gears
  • Support for hardened and ground gear designs after heat treatment
  • Improved control of tooth profile and surface finish
  • Manufacturing support for custom gearboxes and replacement gears
  • Closer integration between gear cutting, grinding, inspection and assembly

Typical Project Use

The ZP 16 is relevant to projects involving large spur or helical gears, heavy-duty gearbox components and engineered replacement gears where the drawing calls for precision hard finishing. The required grinding process is defined from the actual gear specification rather than assumed from gear diameter alone.

Inspection After Grinding

Grinding is only one stage of the manufacturing process. Finished gears should be verified against the project drawing and inspection plan. Depending on the requirement, this can include tooth-profile and lead measurement, runout checks, hardness verification and contact-pattern inspection.
