Custom, Replacement & Reverse Engineering
Industrial Gearbox Engineering & Replacement Services
KNGEAR supports new and existing industrial gearbox projects from application review and custom design to replacement engineering, reverse engineering, manufacturing planning, inspection and technical documentation. We focus on heavy-duty and non-standard drives, including obsolete gearboxes and machinery where a catalogue unit cannot match the required torque, ratio, interfaces or duty conditions.
For large gearboxes originally supplied by other industrial brands, see our heavy-duty gearbox replacement engineering guide covering non-OEM alternatives, mounting interfaces and technical data for evaluation.
Quality Inspection & Documentation: For manufactured gearboxes, KNGEAR supplies project quality documentation covering material certificates, heat-treatment and hardness records, gear grinding and gear accuracy inspection, dimensional inspection, gearbox housing inspection, assembly checks, running/no-load or project-specific testing, and final inspection records. The documentation provides traceability from raw material and heat treatment through machining, assembly and final acceptance before shipment. Application Engineering
Correct gearbox design starts with the duty, not only motor power. We review input power and speed, required output speed, continuous and peak torque, duty cycle, starts and reversals, shaft loads, mounting constraints, environment, lubrication and cooling requirements.
Duty-Based Gearbox Design
For applications that cannot use a standard unit, KNGEAR can develop an engineered gearbox around torque, ratio, shaft arrangement, mounting envelope and interfaces. Custom gears and shafts can also be reviewed from drawings, samples or operating requirements.
Gear geometry, materials, accuracy and inspection requirements are selected for the operating duty. Gear and shaft machining, assembly, painting and testing are carried out in the production workshop; specified heat treatment and gearbox housing fabrication/machining are handled by qualified specialist subcontractors.

Replacement, Reverse Engineering & Retrofit
For obsolete, discontinued or unsupported gearboxes, we review the existing drive around shaft positions, center distances, mounting holes, coupling dimensions, available installation space and actual operating duty. Existing drawings, nameplates, photographs and dimensional records are useful starting points; when documentation is incomplete, gearbox reverse engineering can recover critical design and interface data. For complete unit projects, see our industrial gearbox replacement engineering process.
Engineering support can include material and heat-treatment selection, machining route, gear finishing, dimensional inspection, assembly checks and project-specific documentation.
If original information is incomplete, our replacement and reverse engineering solutions → can help recover the critical interfaces.
To review your gearbox application, please send the main operating data:
- Motor or prime-mover power and speed
- Required output speed or ratio
- Continuous, peak and starting torque
- Duty cycle and operating hours
- Radial and axial shaft loads
- Mounting orientation and available space
- Ambient and operating environment
- Existing drawings, photos or model information for replacement projects
